Medical Emergencies
In event of a serious medical emergency (heart attack, extreme pain, heat stroke, severe bleeding, respiratory arrest, etc.) telephone 911.
- Give the building name and address.
- Office and floor number.
- Type of apparent injury.
- Have someone meet the emergency responders and guide them to your location.
- Administer first aid within your scope of knowledge and training.
In Case of Fire
- Sound the alarm. Activate the fire alarm system by pulling the handle on a manual pull station. (These are located near each exit, and other strategic locations).
- Call 911 or Campus Security at 1453.
- Immediately initiate evacuation procedures:
- Assist the disabled in evacuating the building in accordance with plans developed within your unit.
- Close the office or classroom door(s) if you are the last to leave.
- Use the nearest exit. Do not use the elevator.
- If the corridor or stairways are filled with smoke, or are extremely hot, remain in your room and keep the doors closed tightly.
- Once outdoors, move to your assembly area and wait until otherwise notified. DO NOT RETURN TO AN EVACUATED BUILDING unless told to do so by a University official.
Bomb Threat Procedures
- The person receiving the threat should remain calm and attempt to get as much information as possible from the caller. Record the conversation if at all possible.
- Call 911 or extension 1453, give your name, location, and telephone number. Inform them of the situation, including information you may have as to the location of the threat, time of the threat, and the time you received the call.
- Evacuate the building. Do not initiate or activate the fire alarm system. Verbally notify all occupants to leave the facility.
- Immediately cease use of all wireless transmission equipment (Cellular phones, 2-way radios, etc.).
- If you spot something out of the normal that appears to be suspicious, report it to the proper authorities, usually the Ada County Sheriff's Department, extension 1453, or the physical plant, extension 1409. Under no circumstances should you touch, tamper with, or move objects out of normal, or confront persons acting suspicious.
NOTE: Facility search for bombs, explosive devices, or other suspicious objects will be performed by emergency forces (other than BSU personnel).
